**UPDATE**

In October of 2024, Logos launched a major update and went to a subscription model. They released a ton of new features making their software even easier to use and far more affordable to start. They have a 30 day free trial and their packages start at $9.99 a month. If you lead or teach groups on any kind of regular basis, or just want to go deeper in scripture, Logos is a fantastic resource now for the cost of just one pizza a month!

In 2009, I had just graduated from high school and was thrilled to begin Bible College in the fall. During the summer, I spent a couple of weeks helping with various activities on the college campus. We had friends who worked there and invited me to come and get to know the campus before starting in the fall. In fact, I was there when I bought my first laptop for college and started setting it up.

It was that summer of 2009 when my dad introduced me to Logos Bible Software.

Logos Bible Software has evolved significantly over the years but remains my go-to for sermon and lesson preparation, personal study, research, and general reading. It is a powerhouse for exploring and understanding scripture, and I want to HIGHLY recommend that you check it out yourself. Here are a couple of highlights and features I really like and find powerful for diving into scripture:

1. Bible Word Studies

You might not know Hebrew or Greek (the original languages in which most of scripture was written), but you can still explore these languages with Logos. You can conduct word studies and see where else the same word is used, how it’s translated in other scriptures, definitions, and much more. This can shed a lot of light on scripture!

2. Maps

Have you ever wondered how far one city was from another? Or where Biblical places are in today’s world? Logos has numerous maps that help you visualize the stories of scripture.

3. Interactive Tools

There are many useful tools like Bible Explorer, where you can see every reference in the New Testament to the Old Testament, timelines to visually see who lived when and when events happened in comparison to other Biblical events. There is a text comparison tool to compare the NIV to the KJV or any Bible in your library. There’s a weight and measurement converter tool to see how much it would be in today’s dollar or how far using metrics you’re more familiar with. There’s also a tool for seeing all the names of God throughout scripture!

4. HYPERLINKS!!

Perhaps one of my favorite tools is all the linking and hyperlinks. If you read a commentary and it mentions another scripture, with one click you can open up that reference. You can link your Bible and commentary together so that as you scroll through a passage, the commentary moves with you.

These are just a few features; there are many more! You can highlight and take notes, and there’s a great app that syncs with everything. If you can’t tell, I’m a BIG fan of Logos Bible Software!

If you’re interested, the website is www.logos.com.

Anyone can create an account for free and have access to basic features and a couple of books. The basic base package is $50, but I’d highly recommend the starter package starting at $300. If you compare the two with their comparison tool, you’ll see many extra books and tools starting at that starter package level. If you use this link to purchase, you’ll get $100 off the Starter level or higher. (Yes, I get a little gift too if you use the link, but I think you’ll see it really is your best option for what it comes with!)

They give free books every month to start building your collection! If you want to go deeper in studying scripture, Logos is an amazing tool to do so!

If you purchase Logos and want some help, there are lots of training videos available, and I’d also be willing to help you understand it! Email me at will@graceva.com if you’d like any help and I’ll do what I can!
